Healthy attendance at Medical Cannabiz World Summit

Inaugural Medical Cannabiz World Summit launches with government keynote

Medical Cannabiz World Summit has opened its doors to the global medical cannabis global audience, putting Malta on the map for this fast-growing sector. The island’s biggest new event for the medical cannabis industry launched today with an attendance of more than 1500.

Chris Cardona, Maltese Minister for the Economy and Investment, presented his keynote on behalf of the government to a packed conference room at the summit. He announced, “It is our duty to make this accessible to the public and only right that we make access to these products easier, safer and cheaper.”
Alongside the Maltese government’s commitment to legislation supporting this global industry, the Medical Cannabiz World Summit establishes the Maltese archipelago as a centre for the industry.  In 2018, Malta enacted the Production of Cannabis for Medicinal and Research Purposes Act which provides the legislative measures to permit the production of cannabis for medicinal and research purposes.  This law followed the amendment of the Drug Dependence Act with respect to prescribing of medicinal preparations of cannabis.
Cardona also stated, “The industry is emerging from the shadows and solutions now are needed to grapple with the scaling up of production to keep up with demand.”
Also speaking at the morning’s conference was the Hon. Miriam Dalli, MEP for Malta who spoke about the need for greater research activity within the European Union, saying, “Research and education go hand-in-hand – if we want more doctors to prescribe more medical cannabis to their patients across the EU, we have to ensure there is the necessary research available and that findings are disseminated and made available to all.”
The summit will see a confluence of blockchain service providers meeting brands from the global medical cannabis industry as they create solutions to some of the barriers currently problematic for medical cannabis logistics across the globe.
